Joel A. Kase, DO, MPH, is duel board-certified in family medicine and neuromusculoskeletal medicine and currently serves as an emergency physician in Maine at Togus VA Medical Center, MaineGeneral Medical Center (Augusta and Waterville), and Redington-Fairview General Hospital, where he provides a full spectrum of emergency care. He also served as the emergency department director at Togus VA Medical Center (2013-17).
Dr. Kase has held various administrative and academic positions, including emergency department acting section chief at VA Great Lakes Health Care System, Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Ill., and as a division chief for Public Health and director of Medical Education at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, in addition to others.
A Delegate for Maine since 2003, Dr. Kase has served on several AOA B/C/Cs, most recently as chair of the Council on State Health Affairs (2020-23). He also served on the Board of Directors for the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (2011-19) as well as other professional organizations, including the Governor of Maine’s Physician Advisory Group, the Citizen Trade Policy Commission for Maine State Legislature, and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Local Public Health.
He is a past president of Maine Osteopathic Association (2009-11), where he also served as a Co-Chair of their Maine Health Policy Study Group and Board of Directors from 2002-13. Throughout his career, Dr. Kase has received several awards, including the Roswell P. Bates, DO, Public Service Award, the Physician Provider Champion Award, the Carl F. Meier M.D. Award among others.
Dr. Kase earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Bachelor of Arts in American Studies at State University of New York. In addition, he earned a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health.
